Time, is it on your side? It’s simply mathematics, er…. Elementary my dear dads! Well, according to George S. Clason (author of The Richest Man In Babylon) “As for time, all men have it in abundance.”. Words to remember when you are telling yourself, or whoever else you are trying to convince, “I just don’t have time”. I mean, who are you to argue with the late great Clason!
I get that comment all the time. I don’t argue. I don’t try to convince them otherwise, “because a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.”.
I am just full of useful quotes today! Keep reading and find out! 😉
Basic Dad Path A: Morning Duty
You wake up at 6:30 a.m. You take about 30 to 45 minutes to get ready for work (sometimes you shower, sometimes you’re just generous with the Deo). You get the kids ready, feed them (another 30 minutes), drop them off on your way to work. HOPEFULLY you get to drop them off at the one location, otherwise, drop off is a hot mess. You make it to work between 8:15 – 8:30 a.m.

Basic Dad Path B: Evening Duty
You wake up at 7:00 a.m. You take about 30 to 45 minutes to get ready for work. You make it to work around 8:00 a.m. You leave at 4:30 p.m. to pick your kids up from daycare and/or school. You make it home between 5:15 – 5:30 p.m. You eat dinner, feed the kids and get them ready for bed. They are in bed by 8ish p.m. You then find your favorite chair, sink in and get comfortable. You put on that Cornhole Tournament (thanks to COVID-19 and no REAL sports), pop open a Coors “Lite” and its 10 p.m., bedtime before you know it.

Active-Dad SUPERCHARGED Path A
You wake up at 5 a.m. You take about 30 minutes to get dressed, drink some coffee, some pre-workout, or neither. For about 60 minutes or less, you go on a fast-paced walk, a run/jog/walk, a bike ride, do a circuit workout or go to your fitness center. To continue with you work day, refer back to Path A for your Morning Dad duty routine or to Path B for your Evening Dad duty routine.
Active-Dad SUPERCHARGED Path B
You feed the kids dinner between 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. and get them settled. As previously discussed with your partner for life, you have a scheduled 60-minute window to PRIORITIZE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY and your wife will hold it down during that time. This, of course, must be extended to her as well. You are done in time to help get the kids to bed. You have PLENTY of time to pick up with your cornhole tournament and get to bed on time! Refer to the second part of Path B.
Yes, Time IS On Your Side!
There are several keys to PRIORITIZING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY in these scenarios. One of the main ones is getting buy in from your wife. How does one get buy in from their wife you ask? Easy, you make certain her time is prioritized as well. Her time is at least as valuable as yours. Otherwise this you will be right back on the path of being a Basic Dad.

Couches are comfortable for a reason. There’s time for that. Beer tastes good. There’s time for that too. First thing’s first. George S. Clason said it best, “Opportunity is haughty goddess who wastes no time with those who are unprepared.”.
